Terms of Service

• You confirm you are 13 years or older to register and play, or that you have parental consent and supervision. The game and other players may use mature language and the game may contain graphic content.
• You may not harass, abuse, or otherwise engage in destructive or anti-social behavior towards other players or server staff.
• You may not copy, sell, redistribute, or create derivative works from any part of the game. You may not reverse engineer the game except to the extent this restriction cannot be excluded under applicable law.
• Characters, items, and other in-game content are licensed to you for use within the game, not sold. You do not own them, and we may modify or remove them in the course of running the service.
• We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms or for other legitimate operational reasons (such as fraud, cheating, or abuse).
• The game is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from its use. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
• These terms are governed by Norwegian law.
• We may update these terms. Significant changes will be announced through the game or website, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Privacy

Who is responsible:

TaoSoft AS is responsible for your personal information (the "data controller"). For privacy questions or to exercise any of your rights, contact us at contact@taosoft.org.

Rights / what we respect:

• We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties, except service providers necessary to operate the game (e.g. payment and hosting providers) and where required by law.
• We protect your data using appropriate technical measures, including modern password hashing. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.
• We do not use cookies for any purpose other than login/account session information, namely granting you access to your account.

What we collect, why, and our legal basis:

• Account and profile information you enter, and any external accounts you link, are stored to identify your account and provide the game (legal basis: performing the agreement you enter into by registering).
• Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. We do not store your full card details; we retain only a transaction reference needed to handle purchases, refunds, and support (legal basis: performing the agreement, and our legal obligations regarding records).
• Server-side gameplay recordings of your characters are stored and may be monitored or reviewed, including by automated anti-cheat models, to detect cheating and fraud and to protect the service (legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the game fair and secure). A recording holds what the game sent to your client, the actions your character took, and, during direct gameplay only (the game client window is in focus and being interacted with), your F1-F12 key presses, cursor movements and clicks. Nothing outside the game window is observed, and what you type in chat is not part of the input trace.
• Unless you opt out, we may also use those recordings for neural-network player-agent research within the organization (legal basis: our legitimate interest in researching and improving the game; you can object at any time by opting out in the Account panel on this website, which stops all future research use of your recordings).
• If you opt in, we may send you email newsletters (legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).

How long we keep it:

• Account data: while your account is active and for up to 30 days after deletion.
• Gameplay recordings kept for anti-cheat and fraud purposes: up to 90 days.
• Forum posts: retained while the forum operates (see deletion section below).
• Payment/transaction records: as long as required by accounting and tax law.

Where your data is processed:

Your data is stored and processed on servers located in EU/EEA. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, we use safeguards required by law.

Opt-out:

You may opt out of the following without losing access to the game:

• Use of your gameplay recordings for neural-network player-agent research: tick "Opt out of neural-net player-agent research" in the Account panel after logging in. (You may not opt out of those recordings still being stored, monitored, and reviewed for legal, anti-cheat, and fraud-prevention purposes -- that processing is necessary to run a fair service.)
• Email newsletters and similar.

Your rights:

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and you can object to or restrict certain processing or withdraw consent you have given. The recordings of your own characters can be downloaded at any time from "My recordings" in the Account panel; the input trace (cursor and F-key samples) is not included in downloads. To exercise any other of these rights, contact contact@taosoft.org. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Account deletion and data we retain:

• You may delete your account at any time. We will delete or anonymize your personal information, except where we are allowed or required to keep specific data -- for example, gameplay recordings retained for anti-cheat and fraud purposes for the period stated above, and records we must keep by law.
• For public forum posts, deleting your account does not remove past posts (this keeps public conversations intact), but on request we will disassociate your username from them so the posts are no longer linked to your identity.
